Dr. Sarika Sharma, Professor at SICSR, Pune, delivered an engaging research discussion session on “Qualitative Research Methods.” The session focused on understanding how qualitative research plays a crucial role in exploring human experiences, behaviors, and social phenomena through non-numerical data.

Dr. Sharma highlighted the key differences between qualitative and quantitative research, emphasizing that qualitative approaches prioritize depth, context, and meaning rather than numerical analysis. The session introduced various qualitative data collection methods such as interviews, observations, and document analysis, which involve gathering rich textual, audio, or visual data to gain deeper insights into participants’ perspectives, motivations, and lived experiences.

The discussion also covered flexible research designs that allow researchers to adapt and explore emerging themes during the study. Different interview formats structured, semi-structured, and unstructured were explained as effective tools for capturing personal viewpoints. Additionally, the session addressed the importance of analyzing existing texts, records, and media to identify patterns and interpret underlying meanings. The lecture provided participants with a strong conceptual foundation in qualitative research, making it a valuable learning experience for aspiring researchers.
