Predicting Potential: How Machine Learning is Reshaping Student Success

Title of the Event: Predicting Potential: How Machine Learning is Reshaping Student Success

Date: 29th March 2025

Time: 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm

Venue: 203, SICSR

Mode: Offline

Event Coordinator: Ms. Priya Ambede

Speaker: Ms. Poonam Ghule, Teaching Associate, SICSR

Ms. Poonam Ghule, Teaching Associate at SICSR, delivered an enlightening session on the use of machine learning for predicting student performance, showcasing how technology is transforming education. By leveraging supervised learning algorithms such as Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machines (SVM), and Random Forests, academic outcomes can now be forecasted based on diverse factors like attendance, behavior, socioeconomic status, and past records. This proactive approach enables educators to identify struggling students early and tailor learning plans to their needs. The session also explored current limitations around model interpretability, scalability, and real-time application, opening the door for future integration with deep learning, AI explainability, and avatar-based technologies. As the field progresses, issues like data privacy and algorithmic fairness must also be addressed. The talk emphasized that with responsible use, machine learning holds the promise of truly personalized and impactful education.
