ARSH: SICSR’s E – Cell, in Association with IEEE TEMS SICSR Student Chapter, arranged an online seminar for the students on 5th August 2022. The Speaker, Mr. Sajan Acharya, has about a decade of experience.

Mr. Sajan is a well-respected expert in the capital market with a decade of work experience. He holds a M.com degree, a PGDM degree, and a Ph.D. He has been invited to speak at various institutions in South India and has presented research papers at both national and international levels.

Mr. Sajan explained the fundamental differences between savings and investments, stating that savings is the excess of income over expenditure and that savings need to be invested to generate income. On the other hand, investments are focused on creating assets, wealth, and a risk-reward relationship. He also highlighted the power of compounding, beating inflation, and the importance of generating real returns over the long term to create wealth.

Mr. Sajan discussed e-trading, explaining that the e-trading screen is the interface that investors use to access the e-trading platform and buy and sell securities. This platform includes tools such as real-time market data, order placement, portfolio management, news, research, and charting.

He also talked about the Indian capital market, explaining that it operates from Monday to Friday and is divided into two exchanges, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The market operates from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm IST, with a lunch break from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm IST. The BSE Capital Market Segment (CMS) is a platform for companies to raise capital and for trading equity shares, debentures, and other securities.

Finally, Mr. Sajan discussed the different types of mutual funds available in India, such as equity funds, debt funds, balanced funds, money market funds, and more. He also explained how to invest in a mutual fund, either through a physical application form, online, through the mobile app of a mutual fund, or through an AMFI registered mutual fund distributor.

    Objectives:

  • To provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the difference between savings and investments.
