Alumni Name: Abhay Desai
Batch: MSc Computer Application (2012 - 2014)
Founder of Company: Bee Logical Software Solutions

  • When did you really decide that you wanted to become an entrepreneur, what was that special event that turned your life around, if there was any at all?
  • A: I would say my journey as an entrepreneur started in my early school days when my friends and I tried out different ventures like hosting a fun-fair in the society, making and selling greeting cards during Diwali, plucking and selling Amla (Indian Gooseberry) from my friend’s backyard. I was really fascinated by computers by the age of 12, unfortunately we did not have one at our place so I used to visit my friends’ place to use their computers to play games. When I turned 17, I got my first computer and I started playing around, breaking and fixing it on my own. That was the time I decided I wanted to become a Software Engineer.

  • I was told that you chose to skip on your course-dictated path of a 6-month internship program in your final year, which takes a lot of courage so kudos to that, how did that assist you in building Bee Logical? Did pre-incubation, in SICSR under the management of Prof. Dr. Rajshree Jain, help with your business?
  • A: Though I had decided that I wanted to become a Software Engineer, I was unsure of how to get into the field as I was not good in academics. I was sure I wouldn’t get into any engineering colleges, looking at my grades in school. Eventually one of my uncles who was in the IT industry at an executive post in a reputed firm, suggested that I do my under-graduate course in BCA then post-graduate in MCA.
As I always wanted to start my own business, I never joined any organization, even as an intern. A lot of people criticized me, telling me to get some experience before I start my entrepreneurship journey but I did not want to waste a single day. This was where SICSR, Dr. Rajshree Jain, my parents, sister and most importantly my friend and our co-founder Abhishek, supported me.
In those 6 months of the pre-incubation period, I was doing everything by myself under the guidance of Dr. Rajshree Jain, from sales to writing code, from marketing to project management, etc. I was kind of a one-man army for 6 months and that was when the difference started to show. People from my batch got placements in MNCs while I was just an intern, running the entire show by myself,
Those 6 months were a life changing experience for me and the lessons I learned in those days are still helping me in my career. I would like to take this opportunity to thank SICSR, Dr. Rajshree Jain, my parents, sister and Abhishek for their support.

  • Can you tell me more about Bee Logical and what does it exactly do?
  • A: Bee Logical is a full-service software development company based in India, building digital experiences and brands that people fall in love with. We provide services in Development, Design, Cloud & DevOps and Support. To know more about our company, you can visit https://bee-logical.com

  • You must be aware that our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has declared 16th of January as Entrepreneur’s Day in India. I feel that it is a great initiative by the government to encourage the young to begin their own start-ups, may I get your views on that?
  • A: Over 2500+ startups were established in the year 2021 in India in spite of the pandemic. India has great potential to grow in the startup ecosystem and initiatives like this are simply going to help and motivate budding entrepreneurs like us to push all boundaries.

  • Thank you so much for your time, Abhay, to conclude can I ask you for any advice that you would like to impart to the budding entrepreneurs of SICSR?
  • A: Get your hands dirty, learn every aspect of your business yourself before hiring someone to get any job done whether it’s technical work or management, you should be aware of how things work at the ground level.
Failure is key to success, so if you fail don’t stop, it is the courage to continue that counts and what you learn from your failure that makes you wise.
