The IEEE SICSR Student Branch, in collaboration with the IEEE New Jersey Section, organized a two-day Ideathon on October 3, 2023, called the "Greening The Planet Ideathon" at SICSR, Pune. This initiative invited students and young professionals to collaborate in shaping a more environmentally sustainable future. The aim was to engage participants with a development mindset or business acumen and a strong desire to address pressing concerns for the planet.

The challenge centered around finding solutions towards the effect of climate change and mitigating the same using technology.

The ideathon had the below tracks for the participants to ideate. The ideas would address other crucial issues for a more ecologically balanced earth.
Mitigating Carbon Emissions
Enhancing Water Scarcity and Quality Management
Innovating Waste Management Strategies
Alleviating Food Insecurity

Key speakers at the event included Prof. GS Mani, who provided insights into the Ideathon and commended the volunteers. Ms. Lekha Phijo addressed the participants, resolving queries and highlighting the event's broader vision. She encouraged attendees to explore their innovative ideas and global opportunities, such as the "Call for Code." She also emphasized the availability of mentor support during the implementation phase.

Dr. Rajshree Jain explained the idea submission process, which required participants to submit their concepts via a shared link within a 12-hour deadline. Participants were also expected to pitch their ideas within a 6-minute timeframe post-submission. The evaluation process consisted of two levels, with the most promising ideas selected by the panelists. Participants had the flexibility to present their ideas in various categories, and team sizes were limited to two members.

On October 6, 2023, an in-person event took place at the Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research. The event included a design thinking workshop led by Mrs. Sheetal Atha and Ms. Charu Nemani from IBM. Participants could choose from topics such as mitigating carbon emissions, addressing water scarcity and quality issues, innovating waste management strategies, tackling food insecurity, and leveraging space technology. They were tasked with creating a design thinking chart on A3 sheets, segmented into four sections: SAYS, THINKS, DOES, and FEELS. This workshop aimed to help participants refine and strengthen their ideas.

The workshop was concluded by celebrating IEEE Day. Prominent spekares for the day were, Dr. Rajshree Jain, Mr. Abhijit Kurape, Secretary at IEEE Pune, Parag Kaveri, Deputy Director at SICSR, Dr.Deepali S, Prof.G S Mani and Mr. Rakshit Jain.

On October 7, 2023, two virtual meetings were held for the final evaluation, with two panels of committee members formed. The first panel included Dr. Preeti Ramdasi, Ms. Charu Nemani, and Mr. Dhiraj Chaurasi, while the second panel consisted of Mr. Amol Gulhani, Mr. Jagdish Chaudhari, and Dr. Neha Sharma. These panels selected the top seven teams for the final presentation during the valedictory ceremony. Dr. G.S. Mani disclosed the seven finalist teams, and the jury members, Dr. Prashant Joshi, Mr. Girish Khilari, and Dr. Ajay Poddar, posed questions related to the problem statements and offered suggestions for implementation.

The results were then announced, with the Eloquence Award (Team Presentation) awarded to Rakshit Jain and Sanchi Hisariya, the EcoVisionary Award (Sustainability) to Purvesh Mule and Nikhil Kamode, and the Trailblazer Award (Innovation) to Pranav Bari and Onkar Diwate. Dr. Ajay Poddar and Prashant Joshi encouraged participants to showcase their prototypes at an upcoming conference to gain further recognition and funding. The event concluded with expressions of gratitude to the juries, and feedback was collected from the participants.

Overall, the Ideathon aimed to foster innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration within the IEEE community, with a focus on sustainability and addressing global challenges.
